The Sun Returns
Today, the sun returned for about 5 minutes after nearly a month of absence. It emerged between two mountains on mainland, basking everything with golden glow.

The light streamed into our house and made interior lighting unnecessary. With the return of the sun also came shadows, briefly giving the landscape outside a contrast that we haven’t seen for a long time. It’s the difference between direct and indirect lighting.

The last two months have been the hardest time for living here: dark, stormy, and rainy. You can try to make the best of it: spend more time indoors as a family, catch up on chores, and sit around the fireplace and be cozy. I tried my hand at writing a computer program again. But sunlight is a good thing no matter how you look at it. Today, the sun was beautiful. An object entirely worthy of our worship.
From here on, we’ll get more sunlight everyday. I’m looking forward to photographing things other than the sky. The return of the sun also means I’ll be able to do more outdoors; I haven’t done a lot of hiking and fishing lately.
The weather will get colder for the next month, and that means more snow, which is far better than hail, rain and sleet. We bought a kicksled (spark in Norwegian), which is the bicycle of winter in snowy parts of Scandinavia. The roads are not salted, so they’re always covered with now. To use the kicksled, you put one foot on one of the two blades and kick with the other foot like you’re skateboarding. Your kid, or your groceries, can sit on the seat in front. It’s loads of fun.

I just showed this to my kids as we sit with all windows and doors open and barely any clothes on due to high humidity, and only 6.30am. You explain it so well, we can almost imagine it despite how alien it is to how we are currently feeling and to the kid’s experiences. I want a kicksled!
