Beach Camping under the Midnight Sun
We just came back from a weekend camping on a nearby island, all feverish from the sun, wind and the buzz of having picture perfect beaches all to ourselves for two days.
Which brings me to the second reflection upon leaving here shortly. Rødøy is beautiful by any standard of measure. I’s hard to believe that places like this actually exist in the world of 7 billion people. Many see beach pictures from here and say, “It looks like the tropics!” I think on days like the ones we just had, it’s arguably better than the tropics. Both have white sandy beaches. The water here is cold. But there’re dramatic mountains and 24 hour daylight. And glorious cleanliness. And unbridled freedom: we can camp anywhere we like, even if the island is private. And solitude. For two days we did not hear another boat, let alone run into anyone else.
